윤석열 대통령 인도 뉴델리서 동포 간담회 개최 > 총연합회 언론보도 자료

윤석열 대통령은 9월 8일 주요 20개국(G20) 정상회의 개최지인 인도 뉴델리를 방문해 현지 동포들과 만나 “인도는 자유, 인권, 법치를 기반으로 자유, 평화, 번영의 인도·태평양을 우리와 함께 가꿔 나아가야 할 중요 파트너”라고 밝혔다.

윤 대통령은 이날 인도 방문 첫 일정으로 뉴델리의 한 호텔에서 열린 동포 만찬 간담회에서 이같이 언급하며 “올해 수교 50주년에 이르기까지 한·인도 관계는 쉬지 않고 발전해 왔다”고 말했다.

“기업들과 함께 시장 개척한 여러분 덕분에 양국 관계 발전”

  윤 대통령은 특히 “인도의 경제 개방 초기인 1990년대부터 우리 기업들은 과감하게 인도에 진출했고 이제 삼성, LG, 현대, 기아 등이 인도에서 사랑받는 브랜드가 됐다”며 “최근에는 금융, 방산, 식품, 의류 등의 분야로 우리 기업 진출이 확대되고 있다”고 강조했다. 그러면서 “우리 기업들과 함께 인도 시장을 개척한 여러분 노력 덕분에 양국 관계가 이렇게 발전했다”고 부연했다.

  윤 대통령은 지난 6월 5일 재외동포청이 출범한 사실도 언급하며 “모국과 여러분을 긴밀히 연결하고 글로벌 비즈니스 허브가 돼 동포들의 든든한 울타리가 될 것”이라고 설명했다. 이어 “기업 활동에 매진하는 여러분을 위해 현장에 맞는 서비스도 제공할 것”이라며 “양국 경제협력 최전선에서 열심히 활약해 주길 부탁드린다. 어려움이 있거나 모국 정부에 바라는 것이 있으면 언제든지 기탄없이 말씀해 달라”고 당부했다.

  윤 대통령은 마지막으로 “대한민국은 국제사회에 더 많이 기여하고 인류 전체 과제를 풀어가는 데 더 적극적인 역할을 수행할 것”이라며 “이는 세계의 자유, 평화, 번영에 기여하는 것이자 동시에 대한민국을 위한 것”이라고 말했다.

  강호봉 인도한인회장은 환영사에서 “어려운 코로나19 팬데믹 시기 본국의 철수령에 따라 대부분 인도를 버리고 떠났던 다른 나라 교민들과 달리 대부분 우리 동포는 인도에 남아 인도인들과 합심해 어려움을 이겨냈다”며 “한국인의 위상을 한층 높이는 계기가 됐다”고 강조했다.

  윤 대통령과 김건희 여사는 이날 한국과 인도 전통 복장을 각각 입은 남녀 화동으로부터 꽃다발을 건네받았다.

인도 진출 기업인들과도 오찬 간담회 가져

윤 대통령은 이어 9월 10일에는 인도에 진출한 한국 기업인들과도 만났다. 그는 이날 뉴델리의 한 호텔에서 열린 오찬 간담회에서 기업인들과 인도 시장 상황과 진출 전략에 대해 의견을 나누고 기업 활동 중 통관과 행정 규제, 인프라 등 현지에서 겪는 애로사항도 청취했다. 윤 대통령은 인도 시장에서 한국 브랜드의 위상을 높이고 있는 기업인들을 격려하고, 우리 기업들이 인도 시장의 전략적 기회를 최대한 활용할 수 있도록 어려움의 해소를 위해 적극적으로 지원하겠다고 언급했다.

간담회에는 자동차, 전자, 기계·섬유, 의료기기, 식품, 화장품 등 제조업과 물류, IT, 모바일게임 등 서비스 분야 기업인 12명이 참석했다. 대통령실은 올해 우리나라와 수교 50주년을 맞는 인도는 14억 명이 넘는 세계 1위 인구 대국으로, 인도 시장 기회를 잡기 위해 530여개 우리 기업이 진출해 있다고 설명했다.

모디 인도 총리와 정상회담… 전략적 소통·협력 강화키로

  한편 윤 대통령은 같은 날 나렌드라 모디 인도 총리와 정상회담을 갖고 인도·태평양 지역 핵심 파트너로 양국 간 전략적 소통과 협력을 강화해 나가기로 했다. 두 나라 정상은 G20 정상회의를 계기로 별도 양자 정상회담을 열어 이같이 합의했다. 올해는 한-인도 수교 50주년을 맞는 해이기도 하다.

  이들은 양국 간 방산 협력의 상징인 K-9 자주포(인도명 ‘바지라’) 2차 사업이 원활하게 진행되도록 협력을 지속하고, 국방·방산 분야 협력을 발전시키기로 했다고 대통령실이 전했다. 두 정상은 또 한국 기업들이 인도에서 전기차를 포함한 첨단 제조업을 중심으로 투자를 지속 확대해 오는 등 안정적인 공급망 구축을 위해 협력해 오고 있다는 점을 평가하고, 향후 IT·전자 등 신산업 분야를 중심으로 공급망 협력 폭을 확대키로 했다.

  특히 우리나라가 지난 5월 누리호 발사에 성공하고, 인도의 달 탐사선 찬드라얀 3호가 지난 8월 달의 남극 착륙에 성공한 점을 거론하며 양국 간 우수한 우주개발 역량을 바탕으로 우주 협력을 강화해 나가기로 의견을 모았다. 윤 대통령과 모디 총리는 양국 간 ‘포괄적경제 동반자협정’(CEPA) 개선 협상도 진전시킬 방침이다.

  윤 대통령은 우리 기업들이 인도 내에서 투자를 지속 확대해 나갈 수 있도록 통관 환경 조성과 수입제한 조치와 관련한 모디 총리의 각별한 관심을 요청했다. 안보 분야에서 양국 정상은 북한의 전례 없는 도발이 한반도뿐만 아니라 국제사회 전체의 평화와 안정에 심각한 위협이 되고 있으며, 국제사회의 단합되고 단호한 대응이 필요하다는 점에 대해서도 의견을 모았다.

President Yoon Suk Yeol visited New Delhi, India, the host of a Group of 20 (G20) summit, on Sept. 8, where he met with Korean compatriots living in India. “India is an important partner that we should work together with to build an Indo-Pacific region of freedom, peace and prosperity based on freedom, human rights and the rule of law,” Yoon said at a dinner for compatriots at a hotel in New Delhi.

“With this year being the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our two countries, Korea-India relations have been developing non-stop.”

‘Thanks to your efforts in opening up the market alongside our companies, our bilateral relationship was able to develop’

  “Since the early 1990s, when India’s economy was opening up, Korean companies have boldly entered the country, and Samsung, LG, Hyundai and Kia are now beloved brands in India,” Yoon said.

  “More recently, our companies have expanded into sectors such as finance, defense, food and clothing. It is thanks to your efforts in opening up the Indian market alongside our companies that our bilateral relationship has grown to this point.”

  President Yoon also referred to the launch of the Overseas Koreans Agency on June 5, explaining, “The Overseas Koreans Agency will closely connect you to your homeland and play the role of a reliable fence by becoming a global business hub for all overseas Koreans.

  “We will also provide customized services for you as you pursue your entrepreneurial endeavors,” he added. “I ask you to work hard at the forefront of bilateral economic cooperation. If you have any difficulties or wishes for the government of your home country, please do not hesitate to tell us.”

  “Korea will contribute more to the international community and play a more active role in solving the challenges of humanity as a whole,” President Yoon concluded. “This is not only for the sake of contributing to freedom, peace and prosperity in the world but also for the sake of Korea.”

  In his welcoming remarks, Kang Ho-bong, president of the Korean Association of India, said, “Unlike the diaspora in other countries who abandoned India following the evacuation orders of their home countries during the difficult COVID-19 pandemic, most of our compatriots stayed in India and overcame the difficulties together with Indians. This has become an opportunity to further raise the profile of Koreans in India.”

  President Yoon and first lady Kim Keon Hee received flower bouquets from a group of men and women dressed in traditional Korean and Indian attire.

Luncheon meeting with businesses in India

President Yoon also met with Korean businessmen in India on Sept. 10. During a luncheon meeting at a hotel in New Delhi, he discussed the market conditions and entry strategies in India with entrepreneurs, and also heard about the challenges they face in the country, including customs clearance, administrative regulations and infrastructure. President Yoon spoke words of encouragement to entrepreneurs who are raising the profile of Korean brands in the Indian market and noted that he will actively support them to resolve difficulties so that Korean companies can fully utilize the strategic opportunities in the Indian market.

Agreement reached to strengthen strategic communication and cooperation at summit with Modi

  President Yoon held a summit with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the same day and agreed to strengthen strategic communication and cooperation between the two countries as key partners in the Indo-Pacific region. The two leaders reached the agreement at a separate bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit. This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and India.

  According to the office of President Yoon, the two countries agreed to continue working together to ensure the smooth progress of the second batch of K-9 self-propelled howitzers (Indian name: Vajra), a symbol of defense cooperation between the two countries, and to develop cooperation in the security and defense sector.

  The two leaders also appreciated that Korean companies have been working together to build a stable supply chain in India by continuing to expand their investments in high-tech manufacturing industries, including electric vehicles, and decided to expand the scope of supply chain cooperation, focusing on new industries, such as IT and electronics.

  Mutually noting that the Republic of Korea successfully launched the Nuri rocket in May and India’s lunar probe Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the south pole of the moon in August, they agreed to strengthen space cooperation based on the two countries’ excellent space development capabilities. Yoon and Modi also plan to advance negotiations on improving the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two countries.

  Yoon requested Modi’s special attention to the creation of a customs clearance environment and the removal of import restrictions so that Korean companies can continue to expand their investments in India. In the area of security, the two leaders agreed that North Korea’s unprecedented provocations pose a serious threat to peace and stability not only on the Korean Peninsula but also to the international community as a whole and require a united and decisive response from the international community.
